Beautiful, clean room! The view is stunning and definitely is the highlight! Very spacious room, tiny shower, but well appointed. The terrace is very nice, the views are absolutely gorgeous. The hotel is very quiet, and a much needed respite. The high point of my 6 weeks in Italy, I would absolutely return and request the same accommodation! Thank you!!
Great place! Old school hotel with a wonderful panorama over Sorrento bay from the rooms, also from the swimming pool and bar terrace. Yes the hotel seems somewhat stuck in time, but it added to the charm for me. Also easy to park there (and you get the view which all other tourists try to see by stopping on the road is hotel is on) and great service.
I had a wonderful time in that hotel.
The hotel is in a really good location, if you have a car**
Receptionists were generous. Hotel is a bit old but overall, it was clean. The view was really great, every room can watch sunset from balconies.
The only unfortunate point is the breakfast, it isn't really up to standard at all. We've had much better breakfasts at other guesthouses in Italy.
Food is also not allowed inside the room. Though no restaurant at the hotel but there is a bar where we can get some sandwiches.
We had an absolutely wonderful 5 night stay at Mega Mare, and would happily return. The only drawback is regarding the location; the road is extremely busy and not immediately accessible from public transport, so unless you've dared to hire a car or scooter to drive yourself around, you'd need to either take a taxi (very expensive, we were quoted €30 per km) or walk the 2km down to Meta train station. We opted to walk every day, and although the view along the route is gorgeous, the path itself is very narrow and at times you have to step into the busy road to get around trees and bushes.
The hotel itself is beautiful beyond words, though, so the minor transport drawback wouldn't stop us booking again. The rooms are clean and pleasant, with fantastic air conditioning. And the views... wow. There truly are no words. Sitting out on the terrace or our private balcony every night was pure paradise.
The staff are very helpful and advised us about local restaurants for dinner (the hotel doesn't have one of its own, so eating out is a must), and general tips around the area. Their English was excellent but I made the effort to speak Italian as much as I could; if my efforts were clumsy, everyone was very gracious about it!
I would like to give a special mention to Anna, who worked in the bar and pool areas in the evenings. She was absolutely delightful and a real credit to the Hotel Mega Mare team.
Stayed in 3 hotels in Campania province and Mega mare was worse by a mile.
Cons:
- The room design is wooden, old fashioned and feels haunted by ghosts.
- The double bed barely holds, makes lots of noise and is extremely springy.
- The hotel owner is rude and entitled. Actually ignores you on purpose when asking him a question while he is in the reception alone.
He screamed at us for ordering food to the hotel.
I understand that there's a policy against this but;
- the hotel has nothing to offer other than bad sandwiches and there's nothing around the hotel because it's in the middle of nowhere.
The angry hotel manager/owner treating us like his employees should've handled this differently as I saw 3 more guests ordering and getting a similar treatment.
He said the reason for not allowing orders is because of ants.
Why aren't you paying for exterminator?? Trying the cut costs??
- The alcohol is watered down. We drank 3 cocktails.. seriously there's no alcohol in it.
- There are lots of ants in the balcony (even before we got there) which can get into the room if the doors aren't closed
- The breakfast is very poor. Hard jam cookies, Eggs, ham and cheese
We got there once an hour before breakfast closed and the eggs were gone and the breakfast buffet table was a mess.
Pros:
- The Staff other the hotel owner are very nice I feel sorry for them as they have to deal with this manager/owner guy on a daily basis.
- The view from the room is quite nice
Stayed their early may 2023. Stunng room view, the hotel has an amazing location facing the sea. Rooms are cute and very clean, old style yet very nice and staff are friendly. Prices are reasonable. Breakfast was nice with amazing coffee served. Only downside is the location in terms of public transportation, we had to walk 20 min to meta train station to go anywhere. Alternatively, you could ask the hotel staff to arrange a taxi for you. There’s a nice beach very close by reachable by stairs. Overall our experience there was amazing.
A great view but hard to access without a car.
Nothing in the area except the view.
Not for people with disabilities. Manager speaking to people in such an inappropriate uncourteous tone sometimes !
Not for non-smokers, Smoke invaded the rooms. If i choose a non-smoking room it is not to suffer from other people's smoke ! So "non-smoking room" means you are not allowed to smoke in the room, but you are allowed to breathe
smoke from your neighbors or from the reception area which invades your room, which is meaningless. It is called passive smoking, But like all the smokers, they are not able to print in their mind that their smoke is not limited to their own person, and that they have not to impose it on others. I was constantly annoyed with smoke and it was very uncomfortable, particularly before (trying) to sleep. So much that I was happy the day of my departure to escape that bad atmosphere, while the view was superb.
Pretty hotel right on the cliff, magnificent view with ditto sundown. The staff is friendly and a cute cat will welcome you at the front door. Big plus: there are ample parking spots.
